The Alpha Queen Returns – Episode 30
The silver sky flickered beneath the words USER IDENTIFIED. Nothing exploded, and no army advanced, yet the battlefield changed at a level deeper than stone. Caroline had been named by the structure beyond their world. Every Architect lowered its hands at once, acknowledging a status invisible to the other armies.
She stood motionless while information poured into her mind. It carried no emotion or instinct—only rules, relationships, and logic. She saw why fire rose, why wolves shifted, and where royal blood became authority rather than biology. Each answer opened ten deeper questions before she could absorb the first.
The knowledge struck too quickly. Caroline staggered. “I can see it now.”
Jessica moved toward her. “See what?”
“The structure beneath everything. It is not observing me anymore.” Caroline’s voice sounded far away. Her human thoughts fought to remain distinct inside a flood that treated identity as data. “It is connecting.”
The symbol pulsed and extended a single thread of light toward her. Sarabeth ordered the guards to break it before contact.
“Don’t.” Darkmoon raised one hand, halting the nearest soldier.
Jessica turned Moonfang toward him. “Give me one reason.”
“The system has already registered her. Sever the link now and you may separate Caroline from the framework that recognizes her existence.” When Sarabeth asked whether that was necessarily bad, his answer came quietly. “It may erase or kill her.” He had no evidence beyond fragments of ancient warnings, but no one could afford to test them.
Caroline lifted her hand. The thread touched her palm, and the battlefield vanished from her perception. Jessica’s voice stretched into silence, while the warmth of her hand became a distant point Caroline refused to forget. Her physical body remained standing, but her consciousness entered a space beyond sight.
An immense structure unfolded before her. Countless layers of reality turned inside one another, connected by streams of information. She saw the Wolf Kingdom as a small luminous sphere threaded to worlds it had never contacted. Some followed laws she recognized; others held colors, dimensions, and forms her human mind could barely translate.
“So this is the system,” she whispered. Her words became visible instructions before dissolving into the structure around her.
On the battlefield, Jessica saw Caroline freeze. The girl’s silver aura stabilized into perfect stillness, and even her eyes stopped responding. Jessica touched her cheek and found warmth but no recognition. “Caroline.”
Sarabeth checked her pulse. “She is alive, but she cannot hear us.”
“Her consciousness is inside the interface,” Darkmoon said. The phrase sounded inadequate for a place none of them could perceive.
Jessica’s golden aura flared. “Then bring her out.”
“She has been granted access. None of us can follow without recognition from the same layer.” Darkmoon disliked his helplessness as much as Jessica did. For all his planning, Caroline had crossed a threshold he could only watch.
Inside the interface, a precise voice formed around Caroline. It was neither male nor female and carried no emotion, yet it seemed to come from every connected world. IDENTITY CONFIRMED.
“Are you the Origin Layer?”
ORIGIN LAYER IS A PROJECTION. The words appeared in countless languages, each delivering the same exact meaning.
