The Cursed Alpha’s Mute Bride – Episode 24
The sky above the Temple of the First Moon divided into silver and black. Moonlight spread from the ruined crater while corruption poured across the eastern horizon, turning the storm into a reflection of the powers gathering below.
Wren stood at the center of the wreckage, no longer flickering helplessly between forms. Her lunar wolf moved beside her human body as a living shadow of silver energy. Separate shapes carried one mind.
Hunter’s aura had changed as well. Black flames climbed his shoulders, but threads of Wren’s light moved through them, keeping the curse from consuming his reason. The two forces were no longer incompatible.
Wren lifted one hand. The air answered, forming the outline of a massive wolf behind her. Hunter’s darkness mirrored the movement, shaping a second beast with gold eyes and a body made of shadow. Their paws touched opposite sides of the crater, yet each turned toward the same distant enemy.
Two creatures faced the rising corruption. The bond between their human counterparts held them in alignment, each heartbeat correcting the other’s instability before it could become collapse.
Clay watched from the edge of the crater, supporting an injured warrior. “This is beyond a mate bond,” he said. “They have entered some kind of fusion state.”
Hunter heard him but kept his gaze on Wren. Through the connection, he sensed both her control and the effort it required. “We are synchronized,” he said. “Not invincible.”
The distinction mattered. Their combined strength felt endless, yet one surge of fear could travel through the bond and magnify inside both curses. Balance depended on trust neither of them had possessed for more than a few days. Power had arrived faster than intimacy, leaving them to build control in the middle of battle.
Far beneath Wolfhart Castle, Gertrude slammed a blackwood staff into the center of her ritual circle. Blood-red runes ignited along the floor and climbed the chamber walls.
“You were never meant to stabilize!” she screamed. Her voice traveled through the spell, emerging as a whisper among the temple ruins. “This bond should not exist.”
The ground beneath Gertrude split open, exposing ancient seals tied to the ritual carved into Wren as a child. Each mark connected to a different layer of the living prison.
Gertrude drove her power into the first unbroken channel. The cracked stone in her hand drank blood from her palm, then sent a violent pulse through the distant bond. A line of black fire raced beneath forests and borders, following the mark she had carved into Wren as a child.
Wren collapsed without any warning at all. Hunter caught her before she struck the ground, but black energy had already erupted from beneath the second sigil at her collarbone.
Her lunar wolf distorted. Silver fur broke into fragments while Gertrude’s darkness wound around its legs and jaws. The surviving curse was trying to reclaim the control it lost at the temple. Each new chain carried Gertrude’s voice, repeating the insults that had once made obedience feel inevitable.
Memories shattered across Wren’s mind: a blade carving runes into a child’s skin, masked Elders chanting beneath a blood moon, and the same warning repeated until it became law.
“If she awakens fully, she will destroy the balance of all packs.” Their fear had defined balance as a world where old bloodlines remained obedient and hidden councils chose every Alpha.
Wren tried to rise, but the curse fed on her struggle. It pulled lunar power inward, rebuilding chains from the strength she had only just reclaimed.
Hunter’s expression darkened. Until now, he had fought his curse whenever it rose, treating control as the only proof he remained a man. This attack demanded a different choice.
He stopped resisting the darkness. Black flames erupted over his body, forming armor along his arms and chest. His Alpha presence expanded until even Clay stepped back.
The transformation was stronger and more dangerous than anything Hunter had released in the temple. Golden eyes burned within a face held rigid by will. His shadow wolf towered above the broken pillars, but Wren’s moonlight remained visible inside its chest. “I will not let her be taken.”
