“You’re insane!” she shot back, struggling free. “I’m calling the police. You belong behind bars!”
Gilbert laughed—low, dangerous.
“Go ahead. Call them.”
He leaned in, voice dropping to a chilling whisper:
“Let them hear how the future mayor forced himself on his fiancée’s sister… in a garden.”
“And how your father turned it into a lynch mob.”

The air shifted.
“Election season is coming, Gilbert,” she said coldly.
“One scandal… and your enemies will tear you apart.”
Her gaze cut through him like a blade.
“Front page tomorrow. Your political career—finished.”

“You got hurt because of me,” she said softly.
“Thank you.”
A beat.
“And we’re getting married soon. There’s nothing to fear between family.”

He reached for her hand.
“Give me your hand.”
She hesitated—but didn’t pull away.
He slipped something into her palm.
“What is this?”

“Three days from now… at our wedding—”
“I’ll come for you.”
